Hawke's Bay Wine Auction
The Hawke's Bay Wine Auction is not just New Zealand's premier charity event; it has also become one of New Zealand's premier wine events, and certainly the most prestigious.
The 25th annual Hawke's Bay Wine Auction was held at the Opera House Plaza in Hastings on 12 November 2016 and raised a record $180,000 net for Cranford Hospice, Hawke's Bay's only palliative care facility. Tickets sold out well in advance, with Hawke's Bay's leading wineries providing 41 unique, never-to-be-repeated lots of wine, many of which were blended just for the event. There was also a very special art lot commissioned by New Zealand artist, Gavin Chilcott.
The Hawke's Bay wine industry has been contributing all Auction proceeds since the event’s inception 25 years ago and has raised close to $2.8 million for Cranford Hospice.
To quote wine writer and TV personality, Yvonne Lorkin:
“Over the past quarter century, the Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction has firmly cemented itself as the most unique event of its type in the southern hemisphere. Nothing touches it for history, pedigree and prestige. No other event draws such immense generosity and creativity from the winemaking community and big-heartedness from the wine-enthused public. Event-wise, it is New Zealand’s own Hospices de Beaune”.
Next year's Hawke's Bay Wine Auction will be held on Saturday, 11 November 2017.
