Alwyn Corban – the legendary gentle giant of Hawke’s Bay and the great grandson of Assid Abraham Corban, the Lebanese immigrant who established Corbanes Wines.
Alwyn completed a masters degree in oenology in California then worked in Australia, France, Germany and New Zealand before establishing the Ngatarawa vineyard and winery in 1981.
The maker of many great wines, Alwyn has built a number of superb international brands and now along with his, son Abraham he is continuing their heritage and passion for the grape and wine industry with the AC brand.
Alwyn Corban was raised in the Corban winemaking family who were early pioneers and leaders of the New Zealand Wine Industry. His father, great uncle and great grandfather were winemakers before him. Energetic and enterprising, it was a large, tightknit family who had an ethos of hard work, innovation, respect for family and contribution to their community.
Alwyn himself has over 40 years’ experience in all aspects of the wine industry from establishing the vineyard and growing the grapes, to blending, bottling and marketing.
Alwyn studied winemaking in California, worked in Australia, France, Germany and New Zealand before establishing the Ngatarawa vineyard and winery in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand in 1981.
Alwyn and his son Abraham continue their heritage and passion for the grape and wine industry with the AC brand. Their vision is to introduce consumers not only to the great traditional wines that reflect quality, style and value – whether they be iconic single vineyard wines or wines that result from the art of blending, making the whole greater than the sum of the parts – but also exciting contemporary “new fruits of the vine”.
