Our Speakers:

Louisa Rose, Yalumba
Louisa Rose, Yalumba

During her 20-year career at Yalumba, Louisa Rose has become one of the world’s most respected winemakers and a defining voice in Australian wine. Since her first vintage at Yalumba in 1992, Louisa has forged a reputation for innovation, leadership, and excellence, particularly through her work elevating varietals like Viognier—helping to define its identity in Australia—and challenging traditional perceptions of Barossa Shiraz. As Chief Winemaker from 2006 until her retirement from the role in 2023, she led Yalumba’s viticultural and winemaking teams to new heights, while also championing sustainable practices including wild fermentation and vegan-friendly production.

Now serving as Head of Sustainability and Brand Ambassador, Louisa continues to guide the future of Australia’s oldest family-owned winery with the same passion and vision that marked her winemaking career. She wears many hats—award-winning winemaker, wine judge, board member, and natural leader—and has long been a proud custodian of both Yalumba’s tradition and its progressive, forward-looking ethos. Her deep commitment to sustainability, her finely honed tasting skills, and her inspirational presence have made her a revered figure in the industry and a key force behind Yalumba’s global reputation.

Jonathan Hamlett
Jonathon Hamlett, Craggy Range

With over 20 years’ experience in the New Zealand wine industry since studying in viticulture and oenology at Lincoln University Jonathan joined Craggy Range in 2020 as National Vineyards Manager. This role oversees Craggy Range’s grape production in Hawke’s Bay, Martinborough and Marlborough. Previously his experience across a number of producers in the Hawkes Bay lead to him taking the role of Hawkes Bay Regional Viticulturist for Villa Maria. During this time Jonathan forged extensive experience in organic viticulture leading to being the Chair of Organic Winegrowers NZ for four years. Jonathan also currently sits on the research governance committee for the Bragato Research Institute. Jonathan has a passion for producing exceptional wines that express their individual sites.

Delegat
Andrew Koerner, Delegat

Growing up in Adelaide, Australia’s wine capital, Andrew Koerner was immersed early in some of South Australia’s most renowned wine regions. He studied Oenology at the legendary Roseworthy College, now part of the University of Adelaide, graduating in 1992 with a degree in Applied Science – Oenology.

Andrew began his career in the Yarra Valley at St. Huberts Winery, before moving in 1995 to the Barossa Valley as winemaker for Saltram Winery—part of the Len Evans Rothbury group. His work across both regions helped build a strong foundation in red winemaking.

In 1999, Andrew moved to Rosemount in the Hunter Valley, taking on the role of Senior Winemaker. After Rosemount’s merger with Southcorp in 2001, he also became site manager.

In 2004, Andrew joined Blue Pyrenees Estate in Victoria, a winery established by Rémy Martin. Recognising its potential, he led the estate through significant improvements, raising its profile from a 3-star to a 5 red star winery in James Halliday’s Wine Annual. In 2010, he was appointed CEO.

After 18 vintages at Blue Pyrenees, Andrew joined Delegat in Blenheim as Head of Winemaking in time for the 2022 harvest, bringing extensive experience to the role.

He is the New Zealand Ambassador for the VDP, Germany’s top fine wine estates, and a regular speaker at major events including Pinot Noir NZ, Sommit, and the Bragato Conference.

Richard Painter

Richard is the Senior Hawke’s Bay Winemaker for the Indevin group. With 16 years experience making wine in Hawke’s Bay, Richard has a passion for the district’s Red Wines.

Hawke’s Bay has focused primarily on Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah for the last 30 years but with the changing market, are these varieties still the right one’s for Hawke’s Bay to focus on?

Richard will present a selection of “Other” Reds from Hawke’s Bay to stimulate discussion around what the future of Red Wine looks like for Hawke’s Bay and the suitability for growing, making and selling some of these alternative options.
